TiviMate vs IPTV Smarters: Which Should You Use?

By The MyVixora Team
Living-room TV showing a streaming interface — comparing TiviMate and IPTV Smarters

Quick answer: TiviMate is the better app for live TV — its channel guide, fast channel switching and favourites feel like a proper TV box — but it only runs on Android TV and Google TV devices, and the features most people want sit behind a small paid unlock. IPTV Smarters is free, simpler to set up and better for browsing films and series, but it was removed from Google Play and Apple's App Store in 2026, so getting it is harder than it used to be. If you have an Android TV box and mostly watch live channels, choose TiviMate. On an iPhone or iPad, use Smarters Player Lite.

Every IPTV service needs a player app, and in the UK the choice usually comes down to two names: TiviMate and IPTV Smarters. Ask around and you'll hear strong opinions on both.

Both are good apps. They're just good at different things, and in 2026 the bigger question is often which one you can actually install on your device. This guide compares them honestly so you can pick the right one for how you watch.

One thing first: neither app comes with channels. They're players — the channels come from your IPTV subscription, which you log in to inside the app.

Where TiviMate wins

A TV guide that feels like a real TV box

TiviMate's biggest strength is its Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) — the grid of channels and programme times. It looks and works like the guide on a Sky or Virgin box: scroll down for channels, across for time, and see what's on now and next at a glance.

If you mostly watch live TV, flick between channels or plan your evening from the guide, this is the main reason to choose TiviMate.

Faster channel switching

Changing channel in TiviMate is quick, and you can jump back to the last channel with one press. It sounds small, but if you channel-hop during the football, it makes a real difference.

Favourites, recording and multi-view

With the premium unlock you can build your own favourites lists, record programmes to a USB drive or network storage, use catch-up (if your provider supports it) and watch several channels on screen at once. Premium is a small yearly fee or a one-off lifetime payment, bought through the separate TiviMate Companion app.

One thing to know about multi-view: each extra channel on screen is a separate stream, so it uses an extra connection on your subscription. See how many devices you can use IPTV on for how that works.

The catch

TiviMate only runs on Android TV and Google TV devices — think NVIDIA Shield, Google TV Streamer, Chromecast with Google TV, or a Sony, TCL or Philips TV. There's no iPhone version, no Samsung or LG version, and it isn't in the Amazon Appstore. On an older Firestick you can sideload it; on newer sticks running Vega OS, you can't install it at all.

Where IPTV Smarters wins

The easiest setup

IPTV Smarters is the app most providers walk new customers through, because it's so simple: choose Login with Xtream Codes API, type in three details, and you're watching. If this is your first time with IPTV, that simplicity counts for a lot.

Better for films and series

If your subscription includes a large on-demand library, Smarters shows it the way Netflix does: posters, descriptions and seasons laid out to browse. TiviMate can play films and series, but browsing them feels more like reading a list.

Free, with no unlock

Everything in IPTV Smarters is free to use. There's no premium tier to pay for to get the main features.

The catch

IPTV Smarters Pro was removed from Google Play and Apple's App Store in 2026, as part of a wider removal of 36 IPTV apps. On iPhone and iPad, the original developer's Smarters Player Lite is still available. On Android TV, it's no longer a simple store download.

Removal has also brought a wave of copycat apps with "Smarters" in the name, from unrelated developers. Check the developer before installing, and never pay to "unlock channels" in a player app. Our guide to IPTV Smarters not working covers this in more detail.

Which should you pick?

The deciding factor is usually your device, then how you watch.

Can't decide? Use both

You don't have to choose just one. The same login works in any compatible player, so you can use TiviMate on the living-room TV and Smarters Player Lite on your iPad. As long as you're not streaming on more devices at once than your plan allows, it costs nothing extra.

Is there a third option?

Yes. XCIPTV is a free player that's still on Google Play in the UK. It sits between the two: a decent guide, a clean layout for films and series, and no paid unlock. If TiviMate's premium unlock puts you off and Smarters isn't available on your device, it's worth a look.

TiviMate vs IPTV Smarters FAQ

Is TiviMate better than IPTV Smarters?

For live TV, yes — TiviMate's guide and channel switching are noticeably better. For browsing films and series, or for a first-time setup, IPTV Smarters is easier. Which is better for you depends on your device and what you watch most.

Is TiviMate free?

The basic app is free, but the features most people want — multiple playlists, recording, favourites and multi-view — need the premium unlock. It's a small yearly fee or a one-off lifetime payment, bought through the TiviMate Companion app.

Can I get TiviMate on iPhone or Samsung TV?

No. TiviMate only runs on Android TV and Google TV devices. On iPhone and iPad, use Smarters Player Lite instead. On Samsung and LG TVs, a Firestick or Android TV box is the simplest way to get a full choice of players.

Do TiviMate and IPTV Smarters include channels?

No. Both are players with no channels of their own. You need a subscription from an IPTV provider, which gives you login details to enter in the app. Be wary of any app that offers channels built in.

The bottom line

TiviMate is the better live-TV app, but it only runs on Android TV and Google TV and needs a paid unlock for its best features. IPTV Smarters is free, simpler and better for films and series, but it's harder to get hold of since leaving the big app stores in 2026. Let your device decide first, then how you watch.

Whichever you choose, the channels come from your provider, and the provider matters more than the app. MyVixora's login works in TiviMate, Smarters and XCIPTV, and you can try it in your app of choice with a free 24-hour trial — no card needed.
